A Message from Chancellor Howard Gillman

A Message from Chancellor Howard Gillman

This is an exciting time to be at UC Irvine. Progressing from its founding on a remote coastal ranch into a premier research institution in only 50 years, the campus is consistently ranked among the nation’s best universities — public and private. With a history that includes three Nobel Prizes, multiple Pulitzers, presidential and royal visits, and countless breakthroughs and innovations across all fields of inquiry and professional practice, UCI is a recognized leader on both national and international stages.

Comprehensive research universities such as UCI are the most important and effective contributors to human well-being that the world has ever produced. But for us to have the strongest possible impact, we need to partner with idealistic and passionate people of goodwill who share our commitment to making the world a better place through education, inquiry, understanding and innovation.

Whatever your passion — educating our most talented young people, advancing arts and culture, promoting the opportunity society, ensuring social justice and individual liberty, exploring the frontiers of knowledge, finding real solutions to urgent global challenges, advancing health or improving clinical and professional practice to better serve human needs — we have individuals and programs that, with your help, can make a real difference in the world.

I invite you to learn more about what we do. I know you will be inspired by the talent and vision of our faculty and students.

With your help we are able to ensure that students who are the first in their families to attend college can have an educational experience that puts them on the path to make great contributions to society.

With your help we are able to build on our national leadership in sustainability and get us all closer to a day when we no longer have to choose between our energy needs and protecting our environment.

With your help we are expanding high-caliber patient care and groundbreaking medical research in areas that have touched your life and the lives of your loved ones.

With your help we are responding to our increasingly globalized environment by ensuring a deeper understanding of the vast array of human experience in culture, philosophy, history and creative expression.

The examples are endless.

By building bridges between your passions and our community, we can maximize the impact of your generosity and touch the lives of people you care most about. Your support will enable us to further our commitment to education, inquiry, understanding and innovation in ways that serve the people of California and our world.

If life has been good to you, then I urge you to partner with us to achieve your philanthropic goals.

Fiat Lux.
