Karen Isble

As the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Karen leads the planning and execution of the university’s multi-billion dollar comprehensive campaign in collaboration with senior advancement leadership. In addition to senior advancement leadership, Karen works closely with development staff, deans, faculty members, senior administrative and volunteer leadership, and foundation trustees to foster partnership, create awareness, and coordinate the activities which support the university’s campaign fundraising goals.

Karen brings an extensive background in development and campaign experience, having most recently served as Assistant Vice President for Development Services & Strategic Solutions at the University of Michigan. As a member of their senior management team, she oversaw the data, prospect development and technology infrastructure for the 600-member development community, covering 36 fundraising schools, colleges and units. In addition to providing expertise in university-wide data governance and IT strategy, Karen played an integral role in the $4 billion+ “Victors for Michigan” campaign. As a member of the campaign strategy team, she coordinated all aspects of campaign planning, interacting with campaign counsel, volunteers, donors and university leadership; she also served as acting campaign director.

Prior to joining Michigan in 2006, Karen worked at the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Goodman Theatre in various fundraising roles. She served on the board of directors for the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (Apra) for five years, including her role as president in 2013-14. She speaks regularly at national and regional chapter conferences for Apra, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Big Ten Development Conference and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Karen holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a master's degree from the University of Michigan.
