Welcome Anteater Parents!

UCI student with her parents

A message from the Parent Leadership Committee Chair:

Welcome to the UC Irvine Anteater Family.

As parents, it is our privilege to share in our students’ academic pursuits by coming along side and supporting them in many different ways.  From move-in day to graduation day, parents have the opportunity to be actively engaged with their students’ lives while developing their own personal connection to the UC Irvine community.

As Chair of the UCI Parent Leadership Committee and a Proud Parent of a 2015 Claire Trevor School of the Arts student, I encourage you to participate in and celebrate all that is UC Irvine!

Stay connected with your student.  Call. Write. Text. Tweet. Message them on Facebook or Instagram.  Allow them to develop their own voice, yet let them know you’re there for them when they need you.  The same thing can be said for the University.  Stay connected.  Visit UCI’s website.  Check out “UCI in the News.” “Like” UCI on Facebook.  And be sure to subscribe to the  UCI Parent eNews. Then, share your experiences with and impressions of UCI with your friends and community.

Participate in the life of the University.  For those living locally, there are a wide variety of campus and community events which welcome parent engagement.  Activities abound: athletics, visual and performing arts, academic lecture series, school-related symposiums, festivals, exhibits and expositions.  No doubt, your son or daughter’s school-related events and activities will be high on your priority list, but there are also many things at UCI just for you!  For ideas, check out the UCI Campus Events Calendar.  Even those living outside of Orange County can also participate in the life of the campus.  In addition to the Anteater Welcome receptions, UCI Parent’s Day, which will be held in November 2014, and Homecoming weekend both encourage parent participation.  Also, check out the variety of MOOC’s (Massive Open On-line Courses offered by UCI.  Go to: https://www.coursera.org/uci for current course offerings.

As you begin your journey with UC Irvine as a new Anteater parent or if you have a returning student, let me encourage you to find ways to communicate, participate, celebrate and engage in the life of this extraordinary campus with its extraordinary students.  You will be amazed at all of the exciting things happening here and you’ll be even more proud to call yourself a Proud Anteater Parent!

I invite you to contact us to learn more about this year’s parents events, volunteer activities, as well as the Parent Leadership Committee.  Keep your eye on the UCI Parents Events calendar since it will be updated often.  On behalf of the other members of the UCI PLC, as well as my own Anteater Family, I welcome you to UC Irvine!  Zot! Zot! Zot!

Sincerely,

Cliff Briggs
