Prentiss Foundation Gift Sparks Research

A $150,000 gift will fund a project at the UCI Institute for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research

Lithium is used to treat many severe psychiatric and mental health conditions, but its levels must be closely monitored to ensure effectiveness. Since withdrawing blood to monitor the levels can be difficult for many patients, monitoring levels by taking saliva samples may be promising.

The $150,000 gift from the Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation will enable the UCI Institute for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research to explore this option further.

“The collaborative science happening at the institute is impressive and we are excited to support their ground-breaking research efforts,” says Pamela Alexander, the president of the Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation.
