“Light it Up Blue” is a global campaign started by Autism Speaks to “Shine a light on Autism” in commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day.
Together with the UCI Center for Autism Research and Translation and the Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, the UCI Student Center has lighted their building blue to help kick off Autism Awareness Month in April. The "Light It Up Blue" is a unique global campaign, started by Autism Speaks, that helps raise awareness about the disorder. Thousands of iconic landmarks, buildings, hotels, bridges and retail stores will join communities around the globe to “Light It Up Blue”.
Autism is a developmental disorder that impacts a person’s ability to communicate and socialize. Individuals with autism often have repetitive behaviors and debilitating medical issues. Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the US and costs a family an average of $60,000 a year in out of pocket expenses.
